Green Jobs for Economic Opportunity

The nine million new green jobs being created over the next decade must be a catalyst for driving living-wage incomes for historically underrepresented communities. The World Economic Forum reports that green skills are in high demand, but training and placing workers remains a challenge. Studies point to a gap in workforce participation and a lack of diverse representation as primary factors.

To address these challenges, we launched a $3 million, nationwide Green Jobs for Economic Opportunity Fund to support organizations and multisectoral partnerships in developing early-stage initiatives to improve economic mobility. We are excited to report that we have received 115 innovative applications.

We are willing to take risks on new approaches and seek solutions with a clear potential to increase the incomes of low-wage workers as part of our North Star outcome. We believe that flexible grants for early-stage and innovative ideas will help drive new climate careers while filling a gap in the funding ecosystem.

Our impact target is to drive over $100 in increased lifetime earnings per dollar we spend. For every $1 million invested, we will drive income increases by at least $100 million.

"At GRID Alternatives, we believe in a rapid, equitable transition to renewable energy that benefits all communities," said Erica Mackie, CEO of GRID Alternatives. "We are grateful for this grant that will enable us to advance economic and environmental justice in Puerto Rico and tribal communities across the country by providing clean energy solutions and high-quality jobs." (The projected ROI for this grant is $111 of increased earnings for every dollar invested.)

We invite you to join our inaugural 2024 Green Jobs Funder Coalition by co-investing with us to catalyze living wage jobs!
