Our Style Guide
01.Logos
Glyph & Wordmark
Our logo includes both a glyph and wordmark. The Mimoji (maple leaf in Japanese) is our glyph, the face of our brand. Together with our wordmark that uses the GitLab typeface Inter, they are our most recognizable brand assets. The glyph can be used on its own or as part of the full logo lockup. Avoid using the Gitlab Foundation wordmark on its own.
Avoid messing with the proportions, alignments and color combinations of the brand.
02.Typography
Our typography matches that of GitLab Inc. Inter is the default typeface for all GitLab Foundation materials. It is an open source font and features a tall x-height to aid in legibility. Although it comes in an array of weights, we only use Semi Bold and Regular to preserve simplicity.
INTER REGULAR
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz-1234567890
INTER SEMIBOLD
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz-1234567890
TYPE SCALE
The typographic scale for our website has different weights and styles to lay out responsive compositions for both desktop and mobile, as well as supporting our brand narrative, voice, and tone. Feel free to play with scale and different weight juxtapositions to create visual interest.
8PX SYSTEM
The scale is based on an 8px system, where the type is largely divisible by 8. This mathematical approach to typography allows for clean relationships between headers, sub-heads, and body copy. When it comes to smaller sizes, the system is a little looser to allow for precise type specifications.
56/62PX - HEADER ONE
“Our mission is to improve people’s lifetime earnings through access to opportunities.”
16/24PX - PARAGRAPH
“Our North Star metric is lifetime earnings growth per dollar spent by the Foundation; our primary goal is to maximize value and impact as defined by this metric.”
03.Colors
White is the primary base color. Red is the primary accent color and can be used with any other brand color to add dimension, depth, and highlight. Orange, yellow and black extend the palette for variety and theme-specific applications.
Proper color proportions are essential to maintaining GitLab Foundation’s look and feel. White should be the most used color, followed by red. The orange and yellow should be used sparingly as subtle pops and accents. Black is alternative background when contract or inverse uses are required.
