The Challenge

The non-degree credential marketplace has rapidly expanded to more than 1,000,000 credentials awarded each year from tens of thousands of providers, leaving employers, workers and learners unable to adequately assess the relative value of one credential from another. This leads to workers wasting money and time with credentials that don’t increase their earning potential, and employers struggling to find and hire large numbers of job-seekers by effectively using non-degree credentials to expand skill based hiring.

Our Grant

This investment will help workers, learners, and employers make sense of this fragmented education and training marketplace through a common set of metrics around career placement and earnings. The collaboration will bring together JFF’s extensive network of experts and partners with Burning Glass Institute’s capabilities in developing innovative data models for measuring outcomes, mobility, opportunity alignment, and career resilience at scale. The two organizations will build on the existing EQOS framework and research base—and utilize JFFLabs, JFF’s innovation lab, to incubate and build consumer-facing tools that share accurate information on the economic return from short-term education and training programs.
