The Challenge
In remote communities, like rural Kenya where 37 million people reside, broadband access and low cost computers/tablets have started to make remote job opportunities a possibility – but there remains a significant challenge for job seekers to secure both the skills and mentorship support to maintain these jobs over time.
Our grant
This grant will be used by Generation to expand a pilot program to train and help connect over 9,000 digital freelancers to remote work over the next 5 years.
The program is structured as a 6-week training program, plus a 6-week internship with experienced freelancers, followed by a 4.5 month mentorship period and hopes to result in freelance jobs such as virtual assistants, audio transcription, data entry, and digital marketing.
We believe that if these mentored cohorts can be successful (3+ gigs secured and maintained) this has promise to scale within this market and many others.
The projected ROI for this grant is $176 of increased earnings for every dollar we invest.
