The Challenge
Despite the opportunities that come from fast growing and rapidly changing economies in many African countries, young people are struggling to return to pre-pandemic employment levels. More than one in four young people in Africa – around 72 million – are not in employment, education or training (NEET). Two-thirds of them are young women. And evidence shows that even when highly educated, young people - particularly women - are not making the transition into satisfactory or stable jobs. 10 Academy is an education technology provider with a learning platform that dramatically improves employment outcomes for young people in Africa, with a particular focus on women and marginalised groups.
Our Grant
Our grant will support 10 Academy’s 4th Industrial Revolution For All training program, which will result in 125 new AI experts entering into the global job market. The program uses an intensive online training model with AI-tools recently expanding the capacity of the training by 50%. The program will also pioneer new elements to help 1000 recent university graduates transition faster into higher quality jobs in three months. Delivered by 10 Academy’s team HQ in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, programs are online and remote. The 10 Academy approach has already seen 90% of its trainees gaining technology careers, with graduates earning an extra $1.5M over the course of their lifetime.
